Jon St. Ables (1912-1999)



Jon St. Ables (1912-1999) was born Jon Stables in Ulverston, UK, December 23, 1912. He moved to Winnipeg Manitoba in 1925 then to the west coast where worked as a sign-painter in the shipbuilding industry during WWII. Imperial News Limited hired him to work on Maple Leaf comics based in Vancouver, British Columbia where his artwork appeared in Rocket, Lucky, Bing-Bang and Better, Some of the titles he drew were Brok Windsor, Bill Speed, Piltdown Pete and Bing Bang (featuring Sergeant Canuck). In 2006 Jon St. Ables was inducted into the Joe Schuster Awards Hall of Fame for his contributions to Canadian Comics.
